Piano / Guitar Cross-Reference Diagram

Feb 01
2010

So I made this diagram to help me notate progressions I write on guitar into my sequencer. I haven’t seen one that shows the octave relationship before, so I made one. Any way, I eventually hope to have the fretboard memorized, and relative pitch dialed in and all that. In the meantime, a cheat sheet will suffice.

FP1-3

Back on the music front. I try to play guitar regularly, but am pretty horrible at remembering my lines. So in an effort to document them, I’ve started notating a few of the exercises I’ve written. These were made primarily as a right hand exercise, in an attempt to improve my up-down-up-down arpeggios across multiple strings. In that regard they are a bit on the repetitive side, but still maintain some musicality. I haven’t gotten the software guitar to express in a way I’m satisfied with yet, so I’ve settled on piano for these.

As an added bonus I’ve somewhat managed to salvage a nearly decade old rhythm experiment I did in 11’s. No longer having the source files, I’ve had to work from a flat wav file. It needs so much more, but it is at least listenable now.

Top 10 Albums of 2009

Dec 12
2009

After finding so much good stuff in Audible Oddities Top 10 of 2009 list, I decided to put one together myself. I was halfway curious just to see what it was going to look like, and have posted so little here lately that it seems an apt way to get back to it. I’ve decided not to number them, it’s hard enough to limit the list to 10 11 let alone try to assert some hierarchy between releases which for most purposes probably shouldn’t even be listed together. And yes, I’ve HAPPILY paid for all of them, and continue to encourage everyone to own their taste. Support what supports you.

Christopher Barnes – Five Song EP

Kettel – Myam James Part 2

East on a Golden Wind / America’s Film Legacy

East on a Golden Wind by nkurence

After quite a long slumber I’ve started fiddling with noise again. Got a new track up on SoundCloud, East on a Golden Wind, mastered by the savvy & sublime Christopher Leary @ Melograf Mastering. Super pleased with the results and speed, prices are extremely reasonable as well.

In other news I’ve come across what looks like an amazing book, America’s Film Legacy by Daniel Eagan, a guide to the 500-odd films in America’s National Film Registry via. the Library of Congress. From what I understand, it’s the first such attempt of it’s sort and is garnering some high-level acclaim from the likes of Francis Ford Coppola and Leonard Maltin. If you’re a film buff, it’s likely worth a look. According to the publisher it’s being slated for a November release, and is currently available for pre-order. More information here.
